Heuristic and Exact Methods for the Discrete (r |p)-Centroid Problem

چکیده
In the discrete (r | p)-centroid problem two decision makers, a leader and a follower, compete to attract clients from a given market. The leader opens p facilities, anticipating that the follower will react to the decision by opening his own r facilities. The decision makers try to maximize their own profits. This Stackelberg game is Σ 2 -hard. So, we develop a hybrid memetic algorithm for it. A probabilistic tabu search heuristic is applied for improving the offsprings. To obtain an upper bound, we reformulate the problem as a mixed integer program with an exponential number of constraints and variables. Selecting some of them, we get the desired upper bound. To find optimal solutions, we iteratively modify the subset of the constraints and variables. This approach is tested on the benchmarks from the library Discrete Location Problems. The optimal solutions are found for r = p = 5, 100 clients, and 100 facilities.

Heuristic and exact algorithms for Generalized Bin Covering Problem
In this paper, we study the Generalized Bin Covering problem. For this problem an exact algorithm is introduced which can nd optimal solution for small scale instances. To nd a solution near optimal for large scale instances, a heuristic algorithm has been proposed. By computational experiments, the eciency of the heuristic algorithm is assessed.

The p-median problem is one of the discrete optimization problem in location theory which aims to satisfy total demand with minimum cost. A high-level algorithmic approach can be specialized to solve optimization problem. In recent years, meta-heuristic methods have been applied to support the solution of Combinatorial Optimization Problems (COP). Collision Bodies Optimization algorithm (CBO) a...
متن کاملA hybrid genetic algorithm with solution archive for the discrete (r|p)-centroid problem
In this article we propose a hybrid genetic algorithm for the discrete (r|p)-centroid problem. We consider the competitive facility location problem where two non-cooperating companies enter a market sequentially and compete for market share. The first decision maker, called the leader, wants to maximize his market share knowing that a follower will enter the same market. Thus, for evaluating a...
متن کاملSequential Competitive Facility Location Problem in a Discrete Planar Space
In this paper, there are two competitors in a planar market. The first competitor, called, the leader, opens new facilities. After that, the second competitor, the follower, reacts to the leader’s action and opens r new facilities. The leader and the follower have got some facilities in advance in this market. The optimal locations for leader and follower are chosen among predefined candida...
متن کاملA branch-and-cut algorithm for the discrete (r∣p)-centroid problem
The environment of the (r|p)-centroid problem is composed of two noncooperative firms, a leader and a follower, competing to serve the demand of customers from a given market. The demand of each customer is totally served by a facility of the leader or follower according to a customer choice rule. The goal of both the leader and the follower is to maximize its own market share. The (r|p)-centro...
